PURPOSE: A method for determining the heating characteristic of a glow plug is implemented by the realizing of the difference of the continuous measurements on electric variables. CONSTITUTION: A method for determining the heating characteristic of a glow plug comprises the next steps. A pulse-width-modulated voltage pulse is applied to the glow plug to determine the heating characteristic of the glow plug. One electric variable is repetitively measured during one voltage pulse. The heating characteristic of the glow plug is determined by the difference of the continuous measurements on the electric variable. The electric variable is measured at the start and end points of the voltage pulse to determine two continuous measurements of the electric variable.
