PURPOSE: A light emitting device and a method for fabricating the same are provided to increase the contact between a protective film and an illumination structure by forming a protective film with a film of same material of the illumination structure. CONSTITUTION: A light emitting structure includes a first conductive semiconductor layer(120), an active layer(130), and a second conductive semiconductor layer(140). A protective film(145) is formed on the light emitting structure and is formed with the same material of the light emitting structure. The protective film is formed with at least one of undoped GaN, AlGaN, InGaN, and AlInGaN. The protective film is formed on the top and side of the light emitting structure.
