PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a multibranched polyoxyalkylene compound having low viscosity in an aqueous solution and a method of producing the same. SOLUTION: The multibranched polyoxyalkylene compound represented by formula (1) (in the formula, R<SP>1</SP>is a 1-24C hydrocarbon group; OA<SP>1</SP>and OA<SP>2</SP>are the same or different and are each a 2-4C oxyalkylene group; n and m are each an average addition number of moles of the oxyalkylene group; n represents 0 to 1,000; m represents 10 to 1,000; X represents a functional group capable of reacting with an amino group, a mercapto group, an aldehyde group, a carboxyl group, a triple bond, or an azide group to form a chemical bond; and L<SP>1</SP>and L<SP>2</SP>are each an alkylene group selected from among an alkylene ester bond, a urethane bond, an amide bond, an ether bond, a carbonate bond and an amino group).
