PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a vehicle periphery monitoring device, capable of improving the accuracy of identifying the kind of a target by reducing the influence of occurrence of occlusion. SOLUTION: For a pair of first cell groups forming first to j1-th pairs (j1≤N), a determination is made as to whether a first index C1 is equal to or greater than a first reference value TH1. The first index C1 means the number of overlapping cells in a line direction, in which a plurality of cell lines are aligned. The first cell group includes a plurality of cells contained in a designated luminance range and arranged in succession.
