A pilot frequency transmitting method comprises: in downlink frames a downlink multiple input multiple output (MIMO) midamble is transmitted in the (j)th symbol of the (i)th downlink sub frame by a base station; wherein i is a natural number less than or equal to the maximum number of downlink sub frames included in the downlink frames, j is a natural number less than or equal to the maximum number of symbols included in the downlink sub frames. Correspondingly, the technical solution also provides a pilot frequency transmitting method and a base station for transmitting a downlink MIMO midamble. The technical solution can obtain a better effect of channel measurement by selecting an appropriate transmission opportunity and/or manner for a MIMO midamble.
