PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a garbage collection vehicle and a fire extinguishing method for the garbage collection vehicle, inhibiting or extinguishing a fire broken out in a garbage collection box. SOLUTION: Water vapor generated by a water vapor generation means 5 is supplied into the garbage collection box 1 for extinguishing the fire in the garbage collection box 1. The water vapor generation means 6 includes a water vapor generation chamber 8 provided on a ceiling wall 7 which is a wall part of the garbage collection box 1, and a water vapor injection passage 9 bringing the water vapor generation chamber 8 into communication with the inside of the garbage collection box 1. The water vapor is generated from liquid supplied in the water vapor generation chamber 8 through the heat of the ceiling wall 7 heated by outbreak of the fire.
