PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To synchronously display a signal waveform on a real-time time base, without using any clock extracting device even in the case of signal light with an unknown bit rate. SOLUTION: An apparatus for measuring an optical signal waveform is provided, which includes: a sampling means for sampling the signal light which is input repeatedly, at a frequency slightly detuned with respect to an integer-divided value of the repetition frequency of the signal light, and for sequentially detecting instantaneous values of an intensity of the signal light; and an arithmetic processing means 701 which executes a numerical processing operation of extracting a clock component having the same frequency as the bit rate from the instantaneous values of the signal light intensity acquired by the sampling means, and synchronously displays a signal light waveform by using the clock component.
