The device (1) has a computing unit (2) e.g. CPU, comprising a data memory (3) for storing predetermined loading cycles of a component (7). The computing unit is provided for mechanical loading of the component. The mechanical loading of the component is stimulated by the loading cycles, where the loading cycles are partially replaced by time-scaled loading cycles. Another computing unit (5) is provided for calculating operating period or residual operating period of the component based on material response of the component. An independent claim is also included for a method for determining material response of a component.
