摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To extend the duration of cylinder-reduction operation further and improve a fuel consumption rate further by efficiently generating reaction heat generated through the reaction of unburned gas in a catalyst. SOLUTION: An operation control device for a multi-cylinder internal combustion engine includes a first catalytic converter 82L disposed in an exhaust pipe 81L connected to a first cylinder group and a second catalytic converter 82R disposed in an exhaust pipe 81R connected to a second cylinder group, and can execute cylinder-reduction-operation deactivating the first cylinder group when prescribed-deactivation-operation execution conditions are satisfied. If it is detected that the temperature of the first catalytic converter 82L is less than prescribed temperature when the cylinder-reduction-operation execution conditions are satisfied and cylinder-reduction-operation is being executed (ST4, ST6), the ignition timing of a spark plugs of cylinders of part of the first cylinder group which are deactivated during cylinder-reduction operation is sifted to a retardation side and no ignition fuel injection is executed in cylinders of the rest of the cylinder group (ST5, ST9).
