PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a safety device for a work machine, capable of remarkably reducing a load on the work machine, eliminating a sense of discomfort to the operator. SOLUTION: This safety device for a work machine includes a distance detection means 1 for detecting the distance between itself and an object to be detected B, and a control device 2 for limiting the operation of the work machine A when the detection means 1 detects the object to be detected B within a predetermined area. The control device 2 controls so as to gradually increase the limited amount of the operation according to the distance of the object to be detected B to the work machine A.
