PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a dyed water-absorbing and quick-drying woven or knitted fabric, wherein a dyed woven or knitted fabric made of a polyester fiber is excellent in washing durability of water-absorbing and quick-drying performance, retains a texture of firm feeling in spite of being soft, and has high color fastness and excellent wearing feeling. SOLUTION: By the method for producing the dyed water-absorbing and quick-drying woven or knitted fabric, the woven or knitted fabric containing 20 wt.% or more of a sheath-core polyester fiber, which has one or more recessed parts in a single filament cross-section, contains 0.4-4.0 wt.% of a polyethylene glycol in the sheath part and has a weight ratio of the sheath part/core part of 20/80-50/50, is treated to reduce the weight by 5-15% using an alkali aqueous solution containing an EO addition alkyl benzyl dimethyl ammonium chloride at 100°C or less, is neutralized, and then is dyed.
