PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an elevator device capable of speedily detecting the abnormality of breakage in the core wire of the main rope. SOLUTION: This elevator device includes a breakage detecting means for detecting the breakage of the core wire of the main rope, and a control means 7a for performing emergency operation in accordance with the detection of breakage in the core wire by this breakage detecting means. The breakage detection means is configured to detect a spark caused through the contact between the broken core wire and other equipment in a hoistway. For example, the breakage detecting means is formed of a spark light detecting body 10 for detecting spark light, and a spark sound detecting body 11 for detecting spark sound. That enables the detection of the breakage of the core wire at the occurrence of the spark, which is caused when the core wire of the main rope is broken and contacted with other equipment in the hoistway.
