PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a metal matrix composite material capable of improving mechanical properties while sufficiently securing the content of boron carbide from the viewpoint of a neutron absorption function. SOLUTION: Regarding the metal matrix composite material, in a metal matrix composite material having a pair of metal plates into which a mixing material is inserted, and in which the mixing material is provided with a metal powder and ceramic particles having a neutron absorption function, the ceramics particles include B<SB>4</SB>C particles, and<SP>10</SP>B area density included in the B<SB>4</SB>C particles is set to ≥40 mg/cm<SP>2</SP>, and a neutron absorption achieved by the B<SB>4</SB>C particles is ≥90%.
