PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To save labor for maintenance by adopting a simpler structure for a centrifugal pump, improving rotation stability, saving space, reducing cost, using an annular mechanical seal which does not require adjustment for a long period of time for shaft seal and adopting a simpler method for replacing. SOLUTION: The electric motor is connected with a pump body through flange coupling and a motor shaft is extended without coupling to form a pump shaft. Lateral and vertical shaft centrifugal pump is structured with a shaft seal mechanism arranged in a casing penetration part and an impeller arranged for the extended shaft. A ribbed sleeve is arranged for the shaft seal and the annular mechanical seal is inserted from the shaft end side. The impeller of which attaching and detaching is facilitated with a tapered shaft or a fine stepped shaft is removed and the mechanical seal is replaced by gripping the rib of the sleeve and pulling it at once.
