The system has a controller (1), a seat belt with a belt strap (2), and a belt strap reel (3) rolling the belt strap, where an electrically conductive element (4) e.g. wire, runs along or within the belt strap. The controller measures inductance of the element. The controller is connected to ends of the element by electrical connections (5, 6). The controller determines extraction of the belt strap based on the inductance. The controller determines a belt strap status on the basis of the extraction, and an antenna function is integrated into the belt.
