摘要 <p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To ease lamp images, without casing deterioration in the usage efficiency of emission light, from a backlight device in a liquid crystal display having the backlight device. <P>SOLUTION: The liquid crystal display includes the backlight device 2, a first light diffusion plate 3, prism sheets 4a, 4b, a first polarizing plate 5, a liquid crystal cell 1, a second polarizing plate 6 and a second light diffusion plate 7, in this order. The first polarizing plate 5 and the second polarizing plate 6 are arranged so that their absorption axes have a relation of a crossed Nicol. When the first light diffusion plate 3 receives a parallel light incident in a vertical line direction of a rear face from the rear face, it has characteristics in which the ratio (I<SB>20</SB>/I<SB>0</SB>) of intensity (I<SB>20</SB>) of transmission light emitted to a direction of making an angle 20°to a vertical line direction and intensity (I<SB>0</SB>) of transmission light emitted to a direction of forming an angle 0°with respect to a vertical line direction is 30% or lower.
