PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To feed paper at high speeds without causing a defective conveyance such as the double feeding and no suction of paper. SOLUTION: Levitating air and separating air with predetermined air volumes are blown against a sheet P. A camera 70 acquires an image between an uppermost sheet against which the levitating air and the separating air are blown and the next sheet. A control means calculates the distances between the uppermost sheet and the next sheet from the image acquired by the camera 70. Based on the calculated result of the distance between the uppermost sheet and the next sheet, the sign of double feeding or the sign of no suction of the sheet P can be recognized. Therefore, before the double feeding or no suction of the sheet P occurs, the volumes of the levitating air and the separating air can be regulated and optimized. Since the air is blown against the sheet P with the optimized air volume, the sheet P can be levitated a predetermined distance only to thereby reliably separate sheet one by one. As a result, since the double feeding and the defective no suction of the sheet P can be reliably prevented from occurring, the sheet P can be fed at high speeds. COPYRIGHT: (C)2011,JPO&INPIT
