PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a portable information terminal which can be moved before leaving it or in which a user can be urged to change the direction of a light-receiving plane. SOLUTION: The portable information terminal includes: a dimming sensor 15 for detecting an intensity of incident light to a display screen; a display luminance-adjusting section 33b for adjusting a display luminance of the display screen based on the detected intensity of the dimming sensor 15; a solar cell panel 16 for charging a battery 29 by converting incident light to a light-receiving plane into power; a received light intensity-estimating section 31 for estimating an intensity of the incident light to the light-receiving plane based on output of the solar cell panel 16; a light intensity-comparing section 34 for comparing the intensity of incident light detected by the dimming sensor 15 with the intensity of incident light estimated by the received light intensity-estimating section 31; and a notification control section 35 for notifying a user of reduction in electric power generation based on comparison results obtained by the light intensity-comparing section 34.
