PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a reproducing device which can detachably be mounted on a display device and saves power by stopping supply of power to a circuit for converting a video signal for a display device or external display device, and to provide the display device. SOLUTION: The reproducing device 1 is freely attachable or detachable to/from a built-in display device 2. The reproducing device 1 determines whether a built-in display device 2 or an external display device 3 is connected on the basis of a hot plug detection signal of an HDMI specification, and stops supply of power from a power supply circuit 112 to an internal HDMI transmitter 150 or an external HDMI transmitter 151.
