PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a thermal print head configured to directly thermal-transfer/print a metallic foil, such as copper, on a substrate, wherein a thermal transfer ribbon is prevented from being heated, heat generating elements are always checked, and the head is replaced at a low cost when an abnormality occurs. SOLUTION: A preheater is disposed adjacent to and in parallel to the heat generating elements so as to previously pre-heat the thermal transfer film and reduce the burdens of the heat generating elements. Besides, properties of the heat generating element that the resistance value thereof depends on temperature is utilized, then, the temperature of the heat generating element is detected, and the temperature of the heat generating element is maintained at the previously set temperature so as to prevent the excessive temperature rise. Further, alignment marks are provided on each of individual heads constituted of the heat generating elements and the like, and each of the individual heads and an alignment sheet are accurately joined each other by viewing the alignment sheet of SUS with alignment holes arranged on the same position as those of the alignment marks from the individual head side and performing the alignment of the marks, further, a plurality of alignment sheets are mounted on a heat radiation plate including a plurality of pairs of alignment pins thereon.
