PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a transparent gas barrier film which hardly cause a dimensional change due to heat generated during processing or using, is hardly deteriorated, and therefore can keep high, stabilized gas barrier properties over a long period of time. SOLUTION: The transparent gas barrier film is obtained by: heat-treating a plastic film to shrink to have a specific thermal shrinkage rate to prepare a plastic base film; forming a vapor deposition film on at least one side of the plastic base film to obtain a vapor deposition film; additionally heat-treating the vapor deposition film to shrink to have a specific thermal shrinkage rate; and forming a gas barrier coating film on the surface of the shrunken vapor deposition film on which the vapor deposition film is formed.
