PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a bobbin thread detector of a sewing machine, which is hard to be affected by thread dust and is hard to cause erroneous detection. SOLUTION: In a bobbin 7 around which bobbin thread F is wound, at least a flange part 11 is formed of a magnetic body and a plurality of openings 12 for detection are formed at the flange part 11. An opening 9 for a sensor is formed on a bobbin case 6 for housing the bobbin 7. At the front of the bobbin case 6, an induction type proximity sensor 15 is disposed. For the proximity sensor 15, a detection surface 15a is allowed to face the side face 11a of the flange part 11 through the opening 9 for the sensor at a regular detecting position.
