The invention relates to exothermal heaters, mainly for heating foodstuffs prior to the consumption thereof. The invention makes it possible to increase the efficiency with which exothermic reaction energy is utilized by making use of heat transfer and heat emission and by lowering the requirements with regard to the strength of the body of a flat thermal module. The module is accommodated in the cavity of an outer casing provided with a lock. The thermal module is made of two sheets of a heat-conductive material which are joined along a closed contour by means of a hermetic seam in order to form a closed cavity. A solid calcium oxide-based reagent and a closed chamber made of an elastic material and containing a liquid reagent are accommodated in said cavity. At least one of the lateral sections of the seam contour is provided with a recess on the inner side of the center section thereof, which recess forms an area of reduced mechanical strength in the form of a bridging section in the hermetic seam. The width of the bridging section is less than the width of the seam in the lateral section. The module is situated between a plate made of a heat-conductive material and a packet containing a foodstuff. The packet is made in the form of a package having a reusable lock and lateral walls and a bottom which are made of a flexible gas-proof and waterproof heat-conductive material and which are hermetically joined by means of a thermal seam to from a closed cavity in the package.
