<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a membrane/electrode assembly that is made of a composite catalyst particle having a polyelectrolyte, a catalytic material, and an electron conducting material on an electrode catalyst layer, improves the proton conductivity, in an interface between the electrode catalyst layer and a polyelectrolyte membrane by disposing a composite catalyst particle having a larger content ratio of a polyelectrolyte, at a side in contact with the polyelectrolyte membrane as compared with a side in contact with a gas diffusion layer in a thickness direction of the electrode catalyst layer, and further secures gas diffusion properties in the electrode catalyst layer and improves the output performance by controlling the average grain size of the composite catalyst particle, and to provide a method of manufacturing the membrane/electrode assembly, and to provide a polymer electrolyte fuel cell. <P>SOLUTION: In the membrane/electrode assembly, a pair of electrode catalyst layers is made of a composite catalyst particle, having a polyelectrolyte, a catalytic material, and an electron conductive substance, and the content ratio of the polyelectrolyte in the composite catalyst particle is larger on the side in contact with the solid polymer electrolyte membrane, as compared with the side in contact with the gas diffusion layer in a thickness direction of the electrode catalyst layer. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2011,JPO&INPIT |
