<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a refractory composition which can lengthen available time. <P>SOLUTION: The refractory composition contains refractory aggregate, a phenol resin as a binder component, a solvent as a diluent of the phenol resin and an acetal resin as a curing agent of the phenol resin. The acetal resin is decomposed by high temperature heating to release formaldehyde and the phenol resin is made to gel by the formaldehyde. At temperature for preserving the refractory composition, the acetal resin does not decompose and the phenol resin is not made to gel and thereby viscosity rise with the lapse of time can be suppressed.
