PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electrochemical display element which has high response speed and low electric charge consumption. SOLUTION: The electrochemical display element has an electrolyte layer which contains a silver salt compound, between a pair of electrodes which face each other, and conducts operation for driving the pair of electrodes which face each other so that the silver salt compound is in a silver-ion state or a silver-deposited state.
