PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a paper feeder which is a means for levitating a sheet by blowing air thereto and which can suppress the occurrence of defects such as double feeding and absence of feeding. SOLUTION: This paper feeder includes a sheet pressing means which, before a sheet is sucked, presses the upper surface of the rear end portion of the uppermost sheet, and, before the sheet starts to be conveyed after the paper is sucked, releases the pressing.
