PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an article inspection method capable of improving the inspection accuracy. SOLUTION: A marking 21 is formed on a bottom part 1b of a container 1; and when being photographed, the marking is displayed as a U-shaped black part BA, in an inspection object domain 32. When there is a foreign substance on the bottom part 1b, the foreign substance is also displayed as a black part Ba (A-3). A reference shape 23, having a shape included in a range of the black part BA, is registered, beforehand, and the inside of the inspection object domain is searched with the reference shape; and a position including the whole reference shape is detected, and a domain 23a occupied by the reference shape 23 on the position is recorded (A-4). The (A-4) processing is performed over the entire range of the inspection object domain, and a mask domain M is set from each range occupied by the reference shape in all the domains 23a, 23b, 23c, 23d (A-7).
