A method and a device for a relay station to access a network are provided by the present invention. Said method comprises the following steps: receiving a Ranging Request (RNG-REQ) from a Relay Station (RS), and sending a Ranging Response (RNG-RSP) to said RS; receiving an RS Basic Capability Request (SBC-REQ) from said RS, and sending an RS Basic Capability Response (SBC-RSP) to the RS; receiving a Security Association Traffic Encryption Key Request (SA-TEK-Request) from said RS, and sending a Security Association Traffic Encryption Key Response (SA-TEK-Response) to the RS; and receiving a Registration Request (REG-REQ) from said RS, performing the registration of the RS, and sending a Registration Response (REG-RSP) to the RS after completing the registration. Wherein, security zone capability information and/or data generating capability information of the RS are/is carried in said RNG-REQ, SBC-REQ, SA-TEK-Request, or REG-REQ.
