The method involves determining measuring signal values for a measuring parameter with respect to an operation of an engine in equal operating situations in which determined torque is obtained. A correlation between torque values and measuring signal values is determined with an equation of torque equal to an addition of a product of gain and the measuring parameter with an offset value. The gain and the offset values are determined and are stored in a storage. Torque for an operating state and a normal operation are calculated with the former equation. The measuring parameter is measured. An independent claim is also included for a motor vehicle comprising an engine, a control unit and a measuring unit.
