The present invention is directed to the use of a compound having the formula wherein R<SUP>1</SUP>, R<SUP>2</SUP>, R<SUP>3</SUP>, R<SUP>4</SUP>, L<SUP>1</SUP>, and L<SUP>2 </SUP>are defined herein. The compounds of the present invention are useful as inhibitors of certain taste perceptions and functions.
