<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a vehicle surroundings monitoring apparatus for suppressing the generation of the delay of the timing of distance calculation when calculating a distance between an object and a vehicle is calculated on the basis of the time series image of an object. <P>SOLUTION: The vehicle surroundings monitoring apparatus includes: a first distance calculation means 25 for calculating a distance between a vehicle 10 and an object by using the parallax gradient of the image section of the same object between a plurality of images picked up by infrared cameras 2R and 2L at different points of time in a prescribed sampling period; a vehicle speed sensor 4 for detecting the vehicle speed of the vehicle 10; and a sampling period setting means 23 for setting a sampling period to a short period according as the vehicle speed of the vehicle 10 is high. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2011,JPO&INPIT |
