<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a photosensitive coloring composition, capable of attaining high developing durability and high definition, even when pigment content is high or the film thickness is large, and to provide a color filter using the same. <P>SOLUTION: The photosensitive coloring composition contains (A) a pigment; (B) a transparent resin; (C) a photopolymerizable compound; (D) a photopolymerization initiator represented by formula (1), wherein X<SP>1</SP>, X<SP>3</SP>and X<SP>6</SP>each independently represent R11, OR11, COR11 or CN, and the like, X<SP>2</SP>represents a 1-20C alkyl group, which may have a substituent, a 7-30C arylalkyl group, which may have a substituent, or a 2-20C heterocyclic group, which may have a substituent, X<SP>4</SP>and X<SP>5</SP>each independently represent R11, OR11, SR11, COR11, CONR12R13, CN, a halogen atom or a hydroxyl group, R11, R12 and R13 each independently represent a hydrogen atom, a 1-20C alkyl group, which may have a substituent, a 7-30C arylalkyl group, which may have a substituent, or a 2-20C heterocyclic group, which may have a substituent, (a) and (b) each independently are an integer from 0 to 3, and as necessary, (E) a sensitizer and (F) a polyfunctional thiol.
