PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an inexpensive and easy approach to image conditioning, in a multi-color electrostatographic apparatus. SOLUTION: The image reproducing apparatus includes first and second toner image carriers. Each of the toner image carriers has a toner image that passes through a transfer nip with a web, having a toner image receiving member. Each toner image carrier in each nip is applied with a predetermined amount of pre-nip wrap and a predetermined amount of post-nip wrap by the web. Preferably, the toner image is electrostatically transferred to the receiving member in a constant-current transfer mode. According to this method, a toner image transferred from the second toner image carrier onto the receiving member is used to form a composite image, with the toner image being transferred from the first toner image carrier onto the receiving member. Between the nip of the first toner image carrier and the nip of the second toner image carrier, a discharging member which is in a predetermined low voltage state discharges electric charge of the back side of the web.
