PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a thermal printer which can be made compact. SOLUTION: The thermal printer includes a thermal head 161, an ink ribbon 3 arranged between the thermal head 161 and a printing surface of a printing object 2, and a printing receiving rotary body 41 which rotates, while contacting the printing object 2 so that the printing surface becomes opposite to the ink ribbon 3, and which is constituted to freely approach and separate from the thermal head 161.
