<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical fiber ribbon that is superior in identification and handleability of an individual single-fiber ribbon constituting the ribbons of fibers. <P>SOLUTION: The optical fiber ribbon 1 includes a plurality of flat coated optical fibers 4, each with a coating 3 applied so as to have a minor axis W and a major axis T, in the periphery of a primary coated optical fiber 2 with a diameter D of 250μm, which are configured such that sides 4a being surfaces perpendicular to the minor diameter direction are arranged adjacent to each other and in a row, and are connected together. The size of the minor axis W and major axis T is in the range of Dμm≤W<(D+100)μm and 420μm≤T≤550μm, and thereby the rigidity and handleability of the single fiber ribbon (flat coated optical fiber) constituting the ribbons of fibers are improved. The optical fiber ribbon is conveniently configured, such that batch splicing is possible with a normal splicer forϕ250μm fiber ribbon, coating removal is possible with a normal coating removal tool forϕ500μm fiber ribbon, and clamping is possible with a fiber ribbon holder forϕ500μm fiber ribbon. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2011,JPO&INPIT</p> |
