PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a manufacturing method for a polyoxyalkylene derivative with high purity and high molecular weight useful as a starting material of a terminal-modified polyoxyalkylene derivative for pharmaceutical application mainly concerned with chemical modification such as a medicine. SOLUTION: The manufacturing method for a polyoxyalkylene derivative represented by general formula (1): Z[-(OA)<SB>n</SB>-OH]<SB>m</SB>comprises a step (A) of dehydrating an initiator, a step (B) of adding an alkaline catalyst in the step (A) for dissolution, a step (C) of carrying out addition reaction of an alkylene oxide until the number of moles n thereof becomes 1 to 10, a step (D) of adding an alkaline catalyst represented by general formula (2): R-OW in the step (A), a step (E) of carrying out dealcoholization, and a step (F) of carrying out addition reaction of the alkylene oxide until the number of moles n thereof becomes 80 to 800.
