PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To focus on deviation in an air-fuel ratio distribution caused through the adhesion of fuel on a wall surface during cooling of an engine and, to improve ignitability and combustibility by appropriate ignition control matching the distribution when enhancing the combustibility of an air-fuel mixture by strengthening the swirl flow Sw of a combustion chamber 5 in a spark ignition type direct injection engine E including two ignition plugs 16, 18 for each cylinder C. SOLUTION: A side plug 18 is disposed on a combustion chamber ceiling 5a downstream of the swirl flow Sw from a peripheral edge on the opposite side of an injector 14 when viewed along a cylinder axis c1. During cooling of the engine, temporarily, the fuel Fa adhered on the inner wall surface of the cylinder C is vaporized, conveyed in the swirl flow Sw, and forms a thick air-fuel mixture M near the side plug 18. The side plug 18 is ignition-operated before the center plug 16, to positively ignite the thick air-fuel mixture M. COPYRIGHT: (C)2011,JPO&INPIT
