PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an endoscope allowing a favorable observation by preventing a poor observation caused by the generation of shadow when examining the interior of a recessed section or a surface with a projecting/recessed section with an illumination light emitted from a light emitting section adjoined to an observation window of the endoscope. SOLUTION: This endoscope having the observation window 21 and an illumination window 31 at the distal end of an insertion section includes an illumination range alteration section 40 disposed at the distal side of the observation window 21 and the illumination window 31. The illumination range alteration section 40 is provided with: an alteration section body 42 which has an illumination light incident surface 42a, an opening 41 exposing a part of the observation window 21 to the outside, an illumination light emitting surface 42b, and a first slope face 45 slantly disposed with respect to the optical axis of the illumination window 31, which is disposed at a position facing the illumination light emitting surface 42b in the other side of the opening section 41, emitting a part of the entered illumination light to the outside and at the same time, being served as a reflecting surface for reflecting the residual illumination light in the direction of the opening 41; and a reflecting plate 43 reflecting the illumination light arriving thereto by passing through the opening 41, toward the illumination light emitting surface 42b.
