PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a metal matrix composite which sufficiently secures the content of boron carbide from the point of view of a neutron absorption function and also can enhance mechanical characteristics. SOLUTION: The metal matrix composite includes a pair of metal plates, in which an admixture is sandwiched therebetween, wherein the admixture comprises a metal powder and ceramic particles having the neutron absorption function. In the metal matrix composite, an intermediate layer constituted by the admixture has a theoretical density ratio of 98% or more, and the both metal plates have the total thickness which occupies 15-25% of the whole thickness.
