PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a transmission type display device and a display unit, in which a hologram virtual image is sufficiently viewed, and external daylight transmitted through sunglasses lenses around hologram elements is not suppressed more than required. SOLUTION: The transmission type display device is provided with: sunglasses lenses 14 for diopter scale correction disposed just in front of each eyeball of a user; and transparent substrates 22 arranged in front of the sunglasses lenses 14 (on the object side) and serving as a video image projection monitor. Half mirror layers are arranged on the surfaces of the hologram elements inside the transparent substrates 22. The sunglasses lenses 14 are set specifically low in the transmittance of blue visible light, and are set specifically high in the transmittance of visible light in wavelength areas other than the blue. On the other hand, the half mirror layers are set in the opposite transmission characteristics of the sunglasses lenses 14. Accordingly, the user can view the hologram virtual image having relatively low luminance, projected on the hologram element, without causing difficulty to view the hologram virtual image due to the external light.
