PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an organic/inorganic composite having high water absorptivity, excellent mechanical properties when absorbing water, and high flexibility. SOLUTION: The organic/inorganic composite comprises a polymer of radical polymerizable monomers (A) and a water-swellable clay mineral (B). The polymer is obtained by polymerizing radical polymerizable monomers (A) containing a monomer (A1) expressed by structural formula (1). The mass proportion of the water-swellable clay mineral (B) in the organic/inorganic composite ä(mass of the water-swellable clay mineral (B))÷(mass of the water-swellable clay mineral (B)+mass of the polymer of the radical polymerizable monomers (A))×100%} ranges from 1 to 20 mass%. In formula (1), R1represents a hydrogen atom or a methyl group; R2represents a methyl group or an ethyl group; and n represents an integer of 2 to 100. COPYRIGHT: (C)2011,JPO&INPIT
