The feeder has transport equipments (1a, 1b) transporting and aligning articles (3a-3d) that are stored in a set of storage containers (2). The equipments are arranged parallel to each other, and opened into a common drain (11). The containers include a drain unit (4) for alternatively applying the articles on one of the equipments. One of the equipments includes multiple parallelly arranged retention sections (9), and a switch unit for optional filling the sections. The articles are transferable into a separate buffer memory from the sections by a transfer device e.g. gripper. An independent claim is also included for a method for sequential supply of different groups of articles by a feeder.
