The engine (10) has an exhaust gas turbocharger provided with a turbine with surges (16, 18) for recycling exhaust gas. An oxidation catalyzer (22) is arranged upstream to the turbine of the turbocharger in the surges provided for recycling the exhaust gas. A switching device is provided upstream to the oxidation catalyzer, where a mass flow of an exhaust gas of the engine is adjustable by the surges using the switching device. The oxidation catalyzer is accommodated in sections by a turbine case of the turbocharger.
