The device (1) has two side pieces with clamping elements (2a, 2b) and gripping elements (4a,4b). The gripping elements are braced by a user for pivoting the side pieces during using the device. Inclinations or tangents at points of outer lying surface sections of the gripping elements of the respective side pieces correspond with each other. The surface sections are brought into engagement with a hand of the user during using the device, are pressed together and form an angle of less than 52 degree, when the device exhibits a maximum clamping width. An independent claim is also included for a method for bracing tube-like portion of a clothing-piece.
