PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To fulfill both requirements to achieve an ultra-small diameter and to acquire a high-quality in-vivo image. SOLUTION: An endoscope 2 is equipped with a shift mechanism 32 for shifting an image guide 31. The shift mechanism 32 uses a piezoelectric element 35 as a driving source to shift an incident end of the image guide 31 in a manner to fill a part being a shadow of the clad 51 of an optical fiber 52 constituting the image guide 31 and halts the incident end at each shifting position. A CCD 58 of a three-chip CCD 56 takes images at respective shifting positions.
