PURPOSE: A copy protecting system of a vehicle is provided so that the learning value of a stored engine control unit is compared with the reference range of a database server, the illegal copy of the engine control unit is determined and the determination result is supplied to a technician. CONSTITUTION: A copy protecting system of a vehicle comprises an engine control unit(11), a database server(33), and a control unit(35). The engine control unit practices the learning on the output signals of a variety of sensors every travel distance of a given cycle. The engine control unit stores the learnt value for the output signal of each sensor every accumulated travel distance. If a request signal for the learnt value is received from the outside, the engine control unit transmits the learnt value for the output signal of each sensor through a communication line. The database server establishes and stores the reference range of the learnt value for the output signal of each sensor. The control unit compares the learnt value of the engine control unit with the reference range of the database server. The control unit determines whether the engine control unit has been copied and informs a technician of the determination result.
