PURPOSE: A semiconductor memory device and an operating method thereof are provided to accurately recognize a command by checking the application of a command by decoding an input signal of an input pad with a command decoder. CONSTITUTION: A command and data information are inputted from the outside of a chip to an input pad(ADDR). A transmitter(310) transmits the input signal of the input pad to a data information path and a command path and includes a first input unit and a second input unit. A command decoder(320) receives the signal transmitted to the command path and decodes the command. A transmission controller(330) controls the signal transmission to the command path from the transmitter according to the command decoding result.
