PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent a bag mouth from being closed during transfer from the position of the mouth opening step to the position of the filling step, without using a complicated opened-mouth maintaining device where the step of opening the mouth of each bag and the step of filled object to be packaged are carried out in different positions on a transfer path. SOLUTION: In the bag mouth opening step, bag surfaces are sucked from both sides by a pair of suction cups 5, 5. Subsequently, the interval between the suction cups 5, 5 is increased and the interval between a pair of grippers 2, 2 is narrowed. Thus, the bag mouth is opened in the direction of the bag thickness so that the shape of the opened mouth is long in the direction of the bag thickness. Thereafter, the suction of the suction cups 5, 5 is stopped, and the bag 3 is transferred to the position of the filling step. In the filling step, the interval between the grippers 2, 2 is increased to extend the shape of the bag mouth into a more circular shape from the shape long in the thickness direction. Subsequently, a hopper is inserted into the bag mouth, and filled object is filled into it. When an opening guide is inserted into the bag mouth in the filling step as required and the interval between the grippers 2, 2 is increased, the bag mouth is simultaneously extended using the opening guide, and the opening is formed into a polygonal shape.
