PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electrophoretic medium comprising a plurality of capsules. SOLUTION: An electrophoretic medium 102 comprises a plurality of capsules 104, and each capsule comprises an internal phase and a capsule wall surrounding the internal phase, and the internal phase comprises a plurality of electrophoretically mobile particles 108 in a gaseous suspending medium. Various processes for producing such an electrophoretic medium are also described. An electrophoretic display (100;200) comprises an electrophoretic medium (102;202) and at least one electrode (110, 112), and the electrode is disposed adjacently to the electrophoretic medium (102;202) and is arranged so as to apply an electric field to the medium (102;202).
